MAN TURBO’s product range includes a variety of centrifugal compressors. Centrifugal compressors are extremely robust machines that can be built for the compression of various gases.
The casing design determines whether the compressors are categorised as horizontally or vertically split, each type having different attributes and application limits. The advantages and disadvantages of each and the feasibility of using a particular compressor should be considered with regard to the application in question. The specialists at MAN TURBO will be happy to assist you in this.
Centrifugal compressors are used in a wide range of industries. MAN TURBO offers specific solutions tailored to the customer specification for various applications:
- Oil and gas industry (up-, mid- and downstream)
- Air separation plants
- Chemical industries & Petrochemicals
- Iron & steel mining
- Paper industry
To compensate for the pressure loss that occurs when natural gas is transported long distances in pipelines, pipeline compressors are used to recompress the gas to its original line pressure. In extensively branched pipeline networks in particular, there is a need to vary the amounts of gas transported and the pressure conditions considerably. This in turn makes high demands on the flexibility of the compressors, which should exhibit a high level of efficiency over a wide range of performance characteristics.
Pipeline compressors are also used in gas collection and gas processing plants as export compressors. The majority of compressors at compressor stations are driven by gas turbines. However, electric drive motors are being used increasingly as an alternative to turbines.
For these types of applications, MAN TURBO offers Types RV and Types RM pipeline compressors fully assembled on the base frame.
Isotherm compressors are single-shaft centrifugal compressors with integrated cooling. They are suitable for compressing air with minimal energy consumption. Over 1,000 systems have been produced, installed and commissioned to date.
Isotherm compressors are single-shaft centrifugal compressors with integrated cooling. They are suitable for compressing air with minimal energy consumption. Over 1,000 systems have been produced, installed and commissioned to date.
Isotherm compressors are characterised by:
- Low energy consumption
- Low noise emissions
- Reliability
- Compact construction
- Centrifugal compressor inline
- Highly developed aerodynamics
- Cooler bundle in the compressor casing
There are three types of isotherm compressor:
- RIKT: Centrifugal air compressor with volume flows up to 670,000 m³/h
- ARI: Combination of axial/radial compressor for maximum flow volume
- RIO: Process compressor for oxygen with minimal space requirements
The integrally geared compressor is a centrifugal compressor. The choice of single- or multistage compressor is governed by the profile requirements.
The various types of integrally geared compressors are characterised by low operating costs, a relatively low investment outlay and excellent partial load performance. The compressor consists of a gear unit with a central bull gear that drives two to eight radial-flow impellers (variant with two bull gears and a maximum of ten impellers). It is equipped with interstage coolers. Multistage integrally geared compressors also offer the option of combining the processes of compression (combined compressor) and expansion (compander variant).
Applications:
- Air separation industry
- Nitric acid plants
- Fuel gas plants
- Nitrogen reprocessing plants
- Methanol plants
- Mechanical vapour applications
- Other process gas applications
